Often times girls tell me their warm up for weight-lifting consists of some time spent on a cardio machine.

While this is a good way to literally “warm-up”.. it isn’t necessarily the best way to prime your muscles for the workout you’re about to complete. What you want to do for a warm up pre-lift is get the blood flowing to the muscle you want to train (you can still do a little warm-up cardio if you want). You can do this by completing a few sets with lighter weight and higher reps to get “a pump” going. Then you can do some serious, heavy-lifting ;) Never lift on cold muscles and always make sure to perform your exercises with proper form!
